Beauty and Hair Extensions Tips

Where to Learn About Hair Extensions

The hair extensions industry is exploding! Almost all of the actresses you see are wearing them. In fact, celebrities of all kinds wear them. And not just for performances or public appearances, but in their every-day lives. Almost everyone knows someone who is wearing hair extensions. Some of us probably don’t even realize it. Salons everywhere are incorporating hair extensions into their services.

Maybe you are a beauty or cosmetology professional thinking about adding hair extension services to your offerings. Or, maybe you would just like to learn about hair extensions informally for yourself and your friends. Whatever the reason, here are some resources for learning more about hair extension installation, maintenance, and removal techniques.

YouTube Tutorials on Hair Extensions

The first place you can go to find great information and tutorials is YouTube. There are many channels dedicated to hair extensions that feature everything from tutorials on extension installation, tips and techniques for specific hair styles, and demonstrations of new products.

Here is our YouTube Channel SOCAP ORIGINAL USA with dozens of videos about some of our best, high-quality products.

There are also many other hair extension videos available from individual stylists and salons showcasing specific techniques and products.

Hair Extension Instructional DVDs

Another great choice for informal learning about hair extensions are instructional DVDs such as:

Professional Cosmetology Programs

Hair extensions are a specialty of cosmetology. If you want to learn about them more formally, or consider working with them as part of your career, you may want to consider going to school to become a Cosmetologist.

All states require barbers, hairdressers, and cosmetologists to be licensed. To qualify for a license, candidates are required to graduate from a state-approved cosmetology program. A high school diploma or equivalent is required for some positions.

Full-time programs in barbering and cosmetology usually last 9-12 months and in some cases may lead to an associate’s degree. Most workers in the field take advanced courses in hairstyling or in other personal appearance services to keep up with the latest trends.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, a cosmetology school in or near a major metropolitan city will likely cost at least $10,000 for a full cosmetology program. The same program in a more rural setting could be as low as $6,500. If you choose a more specific program, like esthetics, nail technology, or makeup artistry, the cost of beauty school could be much less, often anywhere between $3,000 and $5,000. The benefit of a comprehensive cosmetology training program is that you learn all those things for one price – hair, nails, makeup and some skin care. Another thing to consider is that some schools include supplies, cosmetology kits, frocks and aprons, and textbooks in their cost of tuition – be sure to ask the school directly.

If you are in South Florida like us, here are a couple of credible Cosmetology programs worth looking into.
